About
Hi, I’m David Piccione, a 32 year old full time project manager, programmer, web monkey, husband and father of one living in Vancouver BC, Canada. I write about things that interest me, specifically: business and entrepreneurship, leadership and management, and technology and the web on this site.
About this Site
This site is basically a platform for me to share my thoughts and opinions on things that I find myself mulling over each day. Its purpose is to extend my profile a little bit as I continue to learn from others from various areas of the internet. It’s my official web presence and the primary point of contact for those that are looking to learn more about me and who I am.
In the top right corner, you can see a silhouette of the Vimy Memorial. It’s said that the Battle of Vimy Ridge in 1917 was where Canada became a nation. Equally true is the fact that the battle was won not by the Generals, but by the Lieutenants and Sergeants in the trenches, leading their men. They succeeded where others before them failed because of innovative ideas, guarded confidence and a tenacious determination to succeed. I present the memorial on every page as a symbol to the values I espouse and the ideal that I would like to continue to live my life by.
I hope that each reader can learn something new by reading my site, and that I can learn something new from each of you.
About David
I came into my own with an intense interest in the military during my teens. I was exposed to formal leadership training thanks to joining the Royal Canadian Air Cadets while growing up in Toronto, ON. It was here, as a teenager, I taught my first class, built my first team and learned to motivate others.
I continued to grow and experience life by joining the Canadian Army, serving with the Toronto Scottish Regiment and with the 1st battalion, Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry, one of Canada’s finest military units. I found that I naturally excelled in the army, making a habit of finishing at the top of some of the army’s tougher courses such as the Infantry Section Commander’s Course and the Reconnaissance Patrolman’s Course.
Upon returning to the civilian world in 1997, I began working in the computer industry, taking many of the principles and experiences gained from my military past with me. As I learned and adapted to the realities of the dot com boom and bust, I continued to focus on self improvement and the application of my skills in the workforce. I became a competent web programmer and discovered a whole new set of interests.
Today, I work as a project manager at a nationally recognized human resources consulting firm, while being on the verge of launching one or two independent web ventures.
Personally, I’ve set foot in every Canadian province and territory west of the Maritimes. I’ve also lived in Italy for a year and traveled to various other locals. I’m married to my lovely wife Sheri - the best woman on the planet - and get to come home every night to my little son Matthew. If I’m not on the net I’m probably reading a book on whatever I happened to find interesting or playing with Matthew, of course.
